Welcome To the Adventure

Staying Connected Through Facebook and Instagram
Digital media plays a major role in my daily routine, especially when it comes to staying connected with the people and communities that matter most to me. The two platforms I use the most are Facebook and Instagram, and each one serves a different purpose in my life. Together, they help me stay in touch with my veteran friends, keep up with family, and share my overlanding adventures.
Facebook: Staying Close to Veteran Friends and Family
Facebook is usually the first app I check each day. For me, it’s more than just a social network; it’s a way to stay connected with my veteran community. Many of the people I served with live in different states, and Facebook makes it easy to keep up with their lives, check in on them, and share memories that remind us of our shared experiences. I have a Facebook account because it helps maintain relationships that might otherwise fade with time and distance. It keeps that sense of brotherhood alive, even when life gets busy.
Instagram: Sharing My Overlanding Adventures
Instagram is where I get to be creative and share the part of my life that revolves around overlanding. I enjoy posting photos and reels from the trail, muddy tracks, campsite views, Jeep upgrades, and the quiet moments that make being outdoors meaningful. The overlanding community on Instagram is active and supportive, and I often find inspiration from other people’s builds and trips. Sharing my own adventures gives me a way to document my experiences and connect with people who enjoy the same lifestyle.
The Downsides: Propaganda and Endless Scrolling
Even with the positives, both platforms have downsides. Facebook can be full of propaganda, misinformation, and political content that gets pushed into my feed. It can be frustrating to sort through posts that are exaggerated or designed to stir up arguments. On both Facebook and Instagram, it’s also easy to lose track of time. Reels are designed to keep your scrolling, and sometimes I look up and realize I’ve spent way more time than I planned watching short videos.
Digital Media and Marketing Today
One thing that stands out to me is how much marketing has changed because of digital media. Ads follow me from one platform to another, especially after I search for Jeep parts or camping gear. Brands use targeted ads, influencers, and short‑form videos to blend marketing into everyday scrolling. It’s clear that companies understand where people spend their time and design their strategies to fit naturally into the content we consume.
